They say the key to great comedy is timing, and the same is true for guitar! Think of your favourite guitarist – it doesn’t matter who they are, even if they have the most blistering lead licks imaginable, we’d put money on the fact that they have rhythm skills to match. It might not be as glamorous, but rhythm guitar is the foundation of everything, and it’s what we spend 90 per cent of our time playing, too. This issue, we’re showing you how to hone your rhythm skills, regardless of the style of music you play. By the end of our lesson, you should have a better understanding of timing, developed your picking and fretting, and also increased your chord knowledge.
We’ve also introduced a new regular this month. So many of us are using modelling amps these days, but with these things growing ever-more complex and sophisticated, it seems like a great time to take a look back at the amps that inspired the models inside. We’re kicking off with one that’s celebrating its 60th birthday this year: the Vox AC30. While this classic might be picking up its bus pass, its still among the best-loved amps for classic rock to punk for a reason. Turn to p28 to check it out, and if you have any requests, feel free to email us!
Elsewhere, we’ve lined up another killer list of songs for you to learn this month (The Beatles, George Ezra, Bon Jovi and Black Sabbath), plus we’re sticking to our promise of featuring the best new affordable gear out there with brand new releases from the likes of Jackson, PRS, Fender, Line 6 and a whole lot more! Enjoy the issue, we’ll see you next month!
