LIVE AT THE 02 + RARITIES
Alter Bridge’s love affair with the UK is getting grander with two nights in October at the Albert Hall with a 52-piece orchestra, and surely a Download festival headline spot will follow soon. How the band got here without mainstream media support may find some scratching their heads. But the fans in the 02 Arena last year know: Alter Bridge deliver huge heart, soul and hope with musicianship to match. And they have a seriously agile guitar tag team in Mark Tremonti and Myles Kennedy that command this crowd with their dynamic, deftly delivering the tricky layers of Ghosts Of Days Gone By and recent favourite Crows On A Wire.
The third disc of rarities will be a real sweetener for fans. The hardcore will already have collected most of the import edition bonus tracks but the two outtakes from the band’s 2005 debut One Day Remains have never been heard before. But they’re more than a completist’s dream.
Solace and Cruel Sun are relatively straightforward dynamically for AB but the former especially highlights elements that have been missing from much of their metallic recent material with a more measured, sweeping rise and fall, Tremonti’s moody fingerstyle and Myles Kennedy using his lower range.
