(Music From) The Elder

This album put the band’s career in serious jeopardy as the songs veer into a strange netherworld in which Jethro Tull and Andrew Lloyd Webber are a single entity. Drippy lament A World Without Heroes incorporates a rare solo from Stanley and is the most familiar on offer. The elegant 12-string on Just A Boy ably fortifies the magnificent vocal, while The Oath gamely builds up a head of steam with an old school riff. Frehley, although rocking out during Dark Light, provides some wretched guitar throughout an extended solo that smacks of appeasement, and his tenure was up. Standout track: The Oath
