Paradise Lost Medusa

Total Guitar - - MONITOR -

There’s no getting around it, the Halifax sons of northern darkness are embracing doom here. It suits them, and though they trade some of the variation some fans may well miss from the underrated likes of SymbolOf

Life and their 2005 self-titled album, it’s towards a powerful end. Gregor Mackintosh’s signature wailing melodic leads soar out of the filthy current of the rhythms here, with tempo shifts and Nick Holmes’s use of clean vocal parts amongst his impressively vicious delivery adding even more dramatic weight to the dynamic. If it’s light on standout anthems,

Medusa is heavy on slow-burning atmosphere and cackles in the face of anyone who thinks metal bands mellow with age. David Hands Download Blood & Chaos
