It’s been an agonising eight-year wait for fans of the cult pop-punk-turned-alt-rockers, but despite stating that they’re ‘done’, Brand New have returned with an album that almost rivals their 2006 opus, Devil And God Are Raging InsideMe. This album is a typically fraught listen, but plays host to the most ambitious guitar work yet from offset fans Jesse Lacey and Vinnie Accardi, the latter delivering the 90s-informed solos he’s long threatened to unleash, forming the crux of 137’ s crushing crescendo. Awkward blues stomper 451 is a slight sticking point, but if this does indeed prove to be the band’s last album, it’s a worthy swan song indeed.
