This Es­sex five-piece showed they had both the song­writ­ing chops and gui­tar flair to jus­tify a ‘next big thing’ tag on their 2015 de­but. Here they’ve honed in on de­vel­op­ing the gui­tardriven side without losing the ver­sa­til­ity and pop hooks. Joe Lan­gridge-Brown and Dom Craik are a canny pair when it comes to us­ing ef­fects and chord voic­ings to cre­ate the dystopian moods of After­life and the quirky ti­tle track, but they also know when to make way for the rhythm sec­tion too; Par­ti­cles kicks in with ex­tra clout in the process.
