Dimmu Borgir

Total Guitar - - MONITOR -

Heavy metal has always had an air of extravagance and few, if any, have embodied that more than Dimmu Borgir. Incredibly, they’ve upped the opulence of 2010’s Abrahadabra to create a symphonic black metal monster with Eonian that borders on the ludicrous. The omnipresent orchestra and choir dominate the cinematic grandeur of Alphaaeonomega and Riteofpassage, largely consigning vocalist Shagrath to a supporting role. The searing guitars of Silenoz and Galder do well to cut through the maelstrom, adding a chilling earthiness to Councilofwolvesand Snakes while drumming out an ominous march during Lightbringer. An act of glorious lunacy. Adam Rees
