’Moth to flame

Total Guitar - - SCENE -

Behemoth may be the biggest name in extreme metal right now, but mainman Adam ‘Nergal’ Darski drew inspiration from his acoustic guitar and mellower Me And That Man project for new album I Loved You At Your Darkest (out 5 October, reviewed p16). “The fact that I could get away from my black metal cave and explore more traditional genres of rock and blues has changed my perspective a lot,” he tells us. “The ancient rock ’n’ roll formula is the key for song structure but this time I wrote all the songs just sitting at my sofa playing my Gretsch acoustic… no amp, nothing. So this determined the songs and riffing a lot… I would just focus on the right chords and atmosphere… the groove.”
