Coming off the heels of 2015’s monstrous Archangel as well as last year’s Cavalera Conspiracy blitzkrieg Psychosis, it’s unsurprising that Soulfly’s 11th effort sees a slight drop in standards. Yet the full-blooded riffing and eerie tribalism the band are known for crush on the title track and Demonized, with Max’s drumming son, Zyon, and the underrated Mark Rizzo playing blinders, not least on the rapid-fire Bite The Bullet.

While the ubiquitous curveballs don’t always work as well as previous albums – the NWOBHM motif of Feedback! a case in point – the deathly onslaught of Under Rapture proves that there’s plenty of life and fire left in Brazil’s finest son.
