JOHN WEBBER, 73
1958 BSA GOLD STAR
These were always fairly rare because they weren’t a massproduced item, you had to order one from the factory. I bought this one in pieces in 1966 – completely in pieces, in boxes. At that stage it was very difficult getting parts for them because they’d stopped making them. I left home, got married and that sort of thing, and it was 1996 before I finally got it going. It stayed in the cupboard at my mother’s place until 1990 I think I picked it up. She was happy to see the last of it ... yes! I decided it was time to work on it. There were people making parts by then. It wasn’t necessarily easy to get them but you could get them. I’ve got two bikes. I’ve done a few long trips on this one. It goes all right. I did the ride last year, it’s supporting men’s health.
