FROM: I’m South African-born — I came out in 1994 when I was about seven. we moved around between Brisbane, Cairns and Townsville. I did uni here then my husband got work so we stayed here. FAMILY: My parents are in Cairns, my husband is from the UK. I had a gap year over there after high school, and I met him over there and brought him back. We have three kids: the youngest, Harvey, is six months, and we’ve got a two-and-a-half-year-old little girl and a four and a half year-old little boy.
WORK: I’m a high school teacher. English is my main area. I was teaching out at Northern Beaches State High and I’m aiming to go back there next year part-time. I like working with teenagers. I think having small kids, I like the difference
between what I have at home and what I do for my job. PLAY? I’ve just gone back to playing a bit of basketball. I used to play rep but I play just socially at the moment, and I enjoy taking photos of my kids.
INTERESTS: I’m fundraising for my cousin at the moment. He’s got a spinal injury. When he was 18 he dived into shallow water and hit a sandbank. He’s quadriplegic. It’s called SIP Week. It started on Monday and I drink every liquid out of a straw — tea, coffee, beer, water, anything — to raise awareness and money for the Perry Cross
Foundation, a Queensland foundation to help find a cure for spinal injuries. My everyday hero fundraising page is https://sipweek2016.everydayhero.com/au/sam
And you can find the Perry Cross Foundation and SIP Week on Facebook, too.
Our model this week is SAM, 29, TEACHER/MUM OF 3
