Townsville Bulletin - Townsville Eye - - Feature -

This is my second Bash. I missed out last year. The year before was the national one, it was Brisbane to Sydney. It was that good I ended up buying my own car, a 1983 VH Commodore, so I could bring other people into it. I pulled it apart, but that’s as far as I got! On your first one they call you a virgin Basher. Everyone takes you under their wing and makes you feel part of a big family. It pulls on your heartstrings, that’s for sure. The part that got me was the dinner, and what they do for the kids. I’ve known these guys for 20 years and my turns come around, but I’ll try to get the Commodore up and running for next year. I did a body building competition last year so I couldn’t do the Bash but I’ve ticked that off the list now. We have a half-day roster for driving; every second day you miss out. We choose to camp all the way. There’s nothing better than waking up in your swag on a zero–degree morning!”
