There’s so much wildlife to discover on Magnetic Island. Here’s a list of some of the creatures you should be on the lookout for and the best place to spot them.
Koalas — The Forts walk Allied rock wallabies — Arcadia jetty feeding area Agile wallabies — Horseshoe Bay oval Short-beaked echidna — all walking tracks (seasonal)
Green sea turtles — Horseshoe and Florence Bay Dugongs — Horseshoe Bay (but rare!) Whales — seen from the beaches or ferry (seasonal) Dolphins — all around the island, most commonly from the ferry Batfish — Arthur, Florence and Radical Bays
Sea eagles — nest at Orchid Rocks Wedge-tailed eagles — nesting pair at Horseshoe Bay Red-tailed black cockatoos — parkland near beaches Eastern osprey — Horseshoe Bay and Cockle Bay
Brahminy kites Bush curlews Rainbow lorikeets Blue-winged kookaburras Sunbirds Sulphur-crested cockatoos Brushtail possums Black flying foxes Green tree frogs House geckos Rainbow skinks Cane toads
