Townsville Bulletin - Townsville Eye - - Reckon -

(courage, integrity, compassion being only a few) and I have written him letters on this platform, hoping that one day he will read them and know the depth of my love and devotion to him, and also maybe a snapshot into what it was like to parent him.

So I geared up for a Lightning McQueen birthday cake this weekend, and when I showed him a few pictures so he could choose he informed me that he did not want a car cake, but he wanted a “Rainbow cake, and mummy when you cut it all the Smarties come out!”

I looked at him aghast. I mean, I can cobble together a car cake. You know, buy some cars, stick some licorice to the icing for a racing track. Sure thing! But a rainbow cake that has smarties pouring out of it?

How does he even know about this cake? I’ve seen these cakes around and was very sure to steer Oscar’s vision away from them. I know my limitations.

So last night I practised (so much food colouring!) and I’m not sure about how great it tastes, but I can assure you it is very bright to look at. Psychedelic almost. And yes, when you cut the cake, lollies pour out.

Luckily, I’m pretty sure he won’t care if some bits are more wobbly then others, or if the icing isn’t completely smooth.

I know when he blows out his candles, he is going too look up and give me the beamer. That heart-lurching Oscar smile.

Happy birthday Oscar! I love you more than words can say.
