“Fasted car­dio” might be trend­ing for its al­leged fat-blast­ing ben­e­fits, but if you re­ally want to rev up your me­tab­o­lism, science says you should tuck in be­fore work­ing out. A re­cent study by the Uni­ver­sity of Bath in the UK found that peo­ple who ate por­ridge two hours be­fore a morn­ing sweat sesh had an in­creased rate of carb-burn­ing dur­ing and after their work­out than those who fasted. Ap­par­ently, eat­ing be­fore ex­er­cise can en­cour­age your body to use the carbs stored in your mus­cles (which helps sta­bilise your blood sugar lev­els) and in­crease the rate at which you di­gest and metabolise food. Guess it’s time to put break­fast back on the menu!
