Not a promise but a priority

Townsville Bulletin - - Lettersextra -

WITH Riverway being such a great asset for our community, it is vital that emerging antisocial behaviour be dealt with firmly and quickly.

That’s the role of the police and that’s why Mayor Les Tyrell correctly sought to have a police beat at Riverway as part of a security strategy.

I couldn’t believe the Beattie government response saying ‘it was unlikely that there would be a police beat soon because it was not a pre-election promise’.

When a problem emerges, it has to be dealt with immediately whether it is an election promise or not.

That’s what governments are elected to do.

Mr Beattie, our community is fed up with crime and violence. We want a firm response now.

PETERLINDSAY, Federal member for Herbert.
