Kids’ fit­ness tests mooted

AUS­TRALIANS be­lieve their chil­dren should take fit­ness tests at school to over­come ex­pand­ing waist­lines, a sur­vey shows.

A study by Re­search Aus­tralia has found that al­most four in five peo­ple sup­port manda­tory fit­ness test­ing to com­bat child­hood obe­sity.

Sup­port was just as high among par­ents as those with­out de­pen­dents.

Re­search Aus­tralia chief ex­ec­u­tive Re­becca James said the re­sults, from a poll of more than 800 peo­ple, were sur­pris­ing given ex­pert opin­ion on this is­sue had been di­vided.
