HUMAN­mack­erelGemma Jensen will at­tempt a cage-free 46km open wa­ter swim from The Strand, around Mag­netic Is­land, and back to The Strand in May. She wants to use the swim to raise money for Ron­ald McDon­ald House, which pro­vides ac­com­mo­da­tion for fam­i­lies who have se­ri­ously ill chil­dren re­ceiv­ing treat­ment at the Townsville Hospi­tal. Ron­ald McDon­ald House chair­man Ge­orge Col­bran said any money raised by Gemma would be used to fund stage two of the McHouse. Ge­orge said stage one in­cluded 12 rooms and was full ev­ery night of the week, so ob­vi­ously there were peo­ple be­ing turned away. Ge­orge is hop­ing busi­nesses and peo­ple from all around North Queens­land who might one day need to use this great fa­cil­ity will pledge money to­wards Gemma’s swim. In 2005 Gemma be­came the first North Queens­lan­der to swim the English Chan­nel.
