Gong for youth program
A BURDEKIN organisation aimed at stopping boredom in the region’s youth from sliding into lawlessness has received a national award for its efforts over the past year.
The Bur-Del Housing Co-operative Advancement Society has received an Australian Crime and Violence Prevention Award for its Burdekin Area Youth Watch program.
Acting Communities Minister and Queensland Attorney-General Kerry Shine said the organisation had made a positive contribution to community safety and crime prevention, and it was important to recognise that.
The project provided assistance, support and long-lasting solutions to engage and combat the problems resulting from boredom among youth in the region.
