Cloud seeding bid for water
THE Queensland Government says it will explore cloud seeding in a desperate bid to secure more water.
Premier Peter Beattie said yesterday he was allocating $7.6 million to a four-year cloud seeding trial in the State’s south-east corner during the spring-summer period.
Mr Beattie said the study was paramount given Queensland’s rainfall had been in decline since 1990.
Natural Resources and Water Minister Craig Wallace said the trial would suit Queensland’s warm temperature, differing from cloud seeding techniques used in southern parts of Australia to enhance water supplies for hydro-electric power generation.
