Promising start to festival

Townsville Bulletin - - News -

CLOUDY, cool conditions have brought a promising start to this year’s Woodford Folk Festival on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast.

Concert-goers and campers previously have had to endure either searing temperatures or a quagmire after downpours.

But this year, it was likely there would be neither and early rain yesterday had not been enough to churn up the former cow paddock, festival general manager Amanda Jacques said.

‘‘It’s a lovely change and we’re very pleased with the weather,’’ Ms Jacques said.

‘‘It’s perfect for a festival.’’

The official opening last night received a royal ‘blessing’ from comedian and impressionist Gerry Connolly.

The festival ends on January 1.
