Man dead in his vehicle at coastguard car park
A MAN was found dead in his car at the Townsville Coastguard car park yesterday morning.
Townsville CIB officer-in-charge Detective SeniorSergeant Graeme Eaton said the man’s death was not being treated as suspicious.
He said a concerned passer-by had called police after noticing the man lying across the back seat of a car about 11am.
The 58-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Det Sen-Sgt Eaton said the car may have been in the car park on Sir Leslie Thiess Drive for several hours before the man was found.
He said the man was a local resident. Several witnesses at the scene had reported seeing him around the area regularly.
‘‘He was known to people in the area, they had seen him around here from time to time,’’ Det Sen-Sgt Eaton said.
He said the man’s death was not being viewed as suspicious and it appeared he had died from natural causes.
But police investigations were continuing yesterday.
Det Sen-Sgt Eaton said the man’s name would not be released until his next of kin could be contacted.
It was unclear whether the man had family in Townsville or the region.
Det Sen-Sgt Eaton said a post mortem examination was expected to be conducted today to ascertain the cause of death.
