EBAY bidders were yesterday battling to win the chance to take a stranger on holiday after a spurned lover from Britain used the auction site to find a new travelling companion.

The man, known on the site as Adam1630 from Wokingham, Berkshire, tells bidders how he booked the five-star holiday at a couples-only romantic hideaway in Jamaica, only to be dumped by his girlfriend.

The unfortunate seller, named by the DailyMail newspaper as insurance underwriter Adam Croot, faces losing thousands of pounds on non-refundable tickets if he doesn’t go.

But the resort will not allow him to take a male friend so he is advertising the holiday at a knock-down price with one condition — that he comes along too.

‘‘Maybe I’m just a tight wad, or maybe I just hate seeing anything go waste, but I want to go to Jamaica,’’ he said.

The total cost of the holiday for two is £ 2400 but Mr Croot has already paid all but the final £ 600.
