Grand Hotel no small deal

Townsville Bulletin - - Letters -

IWOULD like to complain about an article by John Andersen about the Grand Hotel, Hughenden (TB, December 13).

The article made no mention of the Flinders Shire Mayor expressing the view in the Courier-Mailon August 18 that he wanted the building to stay as it was the last pub standing from the town’s early days.

Ihave spoken to the Queensland Government Environment Protection Agency’s cultural heritage branch that informed me that a media release package on the Living Buildings Grant Program for 2006-7 had been sent to all major Queensland newspapers but not reported in the Townsville Bulletin.

The Grand Hotel would be likely to get funding for the conservation building work, which is an important skill to foster in itself.

As our only newspaper, the TownsvilleBulletinhas a responsibility to report such important information for ours and future generations’ benefit. GARYRUD,

Rowes Bay.
