Smer­don chases fea­ture tre­ble

TRAINER Robert Smer­don will be look­ing to kick off the new year with a bang when he chases a fea­ture race tre­ble at Caulfield on Mon­day.

Tal­ented duo Mes­sage Bank and Lucky Diva will spearhead his team when they tackle the Group Three Stan­dish Hcp (1200m).

L a s t - s t a r t w i n n e r Hofmeis­ter will rep­re­sent him in the Listed Bagot Hcp (2400m) while sea­soned cam- paigner Cool Trent will carry the stable’s hopes in the $100,000 By­ron Moore Hcp (2000m).

Both Lucky Diva and Cool T r e n t a r e p r o v e n a t Caulfield, which has been the scene of half of Cool Trent’s six ca­reer wins.

Mes­sage Bank is yet to win at the venue but has been placed at his only two Caulfield starts, in­clud­ing when run­ner-up to Soleil in the Listed Christ­mas Stakes on Box­ing Day. He was on the third line of TAB Sports­bet’s Stan­dish mar­ket yes­ter­day at $8 with Kevin Hef­fer­nan Stakes run­ner-up Cocinero the early $4.20 favourite.

Lightly raced Dar­ren J o l l y - t r a i n e d m a r e Zipanese was split­ting that pair at $7, while Lucky Diva was be­ing kept safe at $13 in an open bet­ting race.

Hofmeis­ter re­turned to form with a solid vic­tory at Wer­ribee last start.
