Po­lice look for ma­chete at­tacker

A MA­CHETE-wield­ing man slashed at a Vin­cent front door as he tried to force him­self inside on Thurs­day night.

The 51-year-old home owner suf­fered only mi­nor in­juries as he fought off the at­tack.

Townsville CIB of­fi­cer-in-charge De­tec­tive Se­nior Sergeant Graeme Ea­ton said the in­ci­dent hap­pened at a Tre­gaskis St ad­dress about 8.50pm.

‘‘A male oc­cu­pant was threat­ened by a man who came to the front door of his house,’’ he said.

‘‘It is not clear whether he was try­ing to break in or get at him (the vic­tim).’’

The front door bore the brunt of the ma­chete at­tack as the of­fender tried to force him­self inside.

‘‘He was armed with a ma­chete, but there was only mi­nor dam­age sus­tained to the front door. The vic­tim sus­tained only very mi­nor in­juries,’’ Det Sen-Sgt Ea­ton said.

He said a fe­male res­i­dent had left the Vin­cent prop­erty a short time be­fore the at­tack oc­curred af­ter an al­leged al­ter­ca­tion, with the vic­tim.

It was be­lieved that she re­turned with the ma­chete-wield­ing man.

He said po­lice were look­ing for the sus­pect, who was aged in his 40s.
