Police look for machete attacker
A MACHETE-wielding man slashed at a Vincent front door as he tried to force himself inside on Thursday night.
The 51-year-old home owner suffered only minor injuries as he fought off the attack.
Townsville CIB officer-in-charge Detective Senior Sergeant Graeme Eaton said the incident happened at a Tregaskis St address about 8.50pm.
‘‘A male occupant was threatened by a man who came to the front door of his house,’’ he said.
‘‘It is not clear whether he was trying to break in or get at him (the victim).’’
The front door bore the brunt of the machete attack as the offender tried to force himself inside.
‘‘He was armed with a machete, but there was only minor damage sustained to the front door. The victim sustained only very minor injuries,’’ Det Sen-Sgt Eaton said.
He said a female resident had left the Vincent property a short time before the attack occurred after an alleged altercation, with the victim.
It was believed that she returned with the machete-wielding man.
He said police were looking for the suspect, who was aged in his 40s.
