RAIN fore­cast for Syd­ney’s New Year’s Eve party could ac­tu­ally en­hance the fire­works dis­play over the har­bour, In­ter­na­tional Fire­works di­rec­tor For­tu­nato Foti says.

Show­ers and pos­si­ble thun­der­storms are fore­cast through­out New Year’s Eve in Syd­ney, with pre­dic­tions the mer­cury will strug­gle to top 22 de­grees Cel­sius in the CBD. One mil­lion peo­ple are still tipped to brave the con­di­tions and crowd the har­bour fore­shore and other van­tage points to see in the New Year with a spec­tac­u­lar fire­works show.

The $4 mil­lion cel­e­bra­tions are be­ing dubbed a Di­a­mond Night in the Emer­ald City, with the event also ring­ing in the an­niver­sary of the Har­bour Bridge, which cel­e­brates its 75th birth­day in March.

Two hun­dred tonnes of equip­ment will be used to launch py­rotech­nics with 3000kgof ex­plo­sive con­tent.
