Web­ber still a mon­grel

MARK Web­ber de­nies he’s lost the chance to re­sume po­si­tion of top dog in the Red Bull sta­ble, say­ing he’s still got ‘ plenty of mon­grel’ in him. The 34-year-old Aussie’s battle with Ger­man team­mate Se­bas­tian Vet­tel, 11 years his ju­nior, con­tin­ues in 2011 af­ter Web­ber’s per­for­mance last For­mula One sea­son left him con­firmed as Red Bull’s num­ber two driver. Web­ber has since made clear his in­ten­tion to re­place Vet­tel as world cham­pion this year, af­ter lead­ing the For­mula One stand­ings for much of last sea­son. ‘‘ I’ve al­ways had some good mon­grel in me,’’ Web­ber said.‘‘ If your team­mate is win­ning grand prix and you’re not, that’s not good.’’ The first race is in Mel­bourne on March 27.
