Sky high hope for transporter
AUSTRALIA is hoping a fifth C-17 Globemaster long-range transport aircraft could be available for delivery this year. But with Boeing’s C-17 production line fully booked with orders out to 2013, Australia could have to convince an existing customer such as the US Air Force to give up one of its ordered aircraft. Defence Minister Stephen Smith announced on Monday the government was considering buying an extra C-17. He said the C-17s had proven extremely useful in recent relief operations.
