Townsville Bulletin - - News -

IN a poignant reflection of the impact of Christchurch’s devastating earthquake a week ago, it was reported Tuesday that one of those killed will be buried in a coffin crafted by his workmates out of timber from his family home. Joiner Owen Morris Wright – a father of two – survived the initial 6.3-magnitude earthquake, but was killed by falling boulders in an aftershock as he tried to get home, The Dominion Post reported. No date has been set for Wright’s funeral, but staff at his Christchurch business Joinery by Design spent Monday making his coffin, cousin and business partner Evan McLachlan said. Wright is one of a handful of the 154 confirmed dead whose names have been released by authorities.
