Community cyclone effort recognised
POWER TO PEOPLE: Energex trucks at Innisfail showgrounds after Yasi I WRITE today to thank the residents and businesses of the greater Townsville-Ingham area for their incredible support and wishes to the Energex staff from South East Queensland during the electricity restoration effort following Cyclone Yasi.
During the past weeks 315 Energex staff and contractors were involved in either network rebuilding alongside our colleagues at Ergon Energy and other electricity companies, or tasked with driving vehicles or mobile generators from south east Queensland to the cyclone hit area. A total of 107 Energex vehicles and 23 generators were employed as part of the Ergonled taskforce to help restore the power supplies.
The last of our staff and contractors returned home over the weekend after an exhausting and fulfilling assistance mission.
We realise the larger community, has many months of hard rebuilding work ahead.
I would like to thank the people who have made our response so much easier.
Obviously there are our counter- parts at Ergon Energy, as well as local police, fire and emergency services personnel, council, the defence force, Red Cross and other charity groups, hotel operators and staff, store owners and other suppliers who have been amazing.
But most importantly I would like to thank the local residents in the cyclone hit areas who have been truly inspirational in their resilience, frequent offers of help and good friendship during our stay.
