Cattle numbers down
INTERMITTENT rains across North Queensland over the past few days have failed to put a stop to today’s weekly sale at Charters Towers although they appear to have impacted on the event, with cattle numbers fewer than were expected.
A total of 784 cattle are booked for the auction, which comes two weeks after the first of the year at Dalrymple Saleyards when just 306 head were knocked down to buyers.
The prime cattle offering at the auction consisted of plainer beasts and numbers were too few to give an indication of the market.
Last week, the regular Wednesday auction at the saleyards was cancelled due to insufficient cattle numbers, as was a special store sale planned for last Friday.
