Asian bee poses threat

Townsville Bulletin - - News -

NORTH Queensland beekeepers fear for their futures after the Federal Government cut funding to the war on the Asian honey bee. The Asian bee outcompetes European bees and is a natural host for the varroa mite which destroys hives. North Queensland LNP Senator Ian Macdonald and his Greens counterpart Christine Milne have called on the government to reinstate funding for the sake of future food security. Sen Macdonald said there were reports the bee had recently been seen in Townsville.
