Paul Howes AUSTRALIA’S biggest blue collar trade union has backed Prime Minister Julia Gillard’s carbon tax but warns that failure on the issue could cost her job. Australian Workers Union national secretary Paul Howes also urged the Federal Government to reveal details of the tax as soon as possible. ‘‘ I believe in a tax and I think it’s a good idea. We should pursue this idea,’’ Mr Howes said yesterday. ‘‘ They have the right to do it because they are the government and the government has the right . . . to implement policies that they see are in the interests of the Australian people. ‘‘ If they fail, they’ll be tossed out at the next election.’’
