Choice wants ombudsman

Townsville Bulletin - - News -

CONSUMER group Choice said a supermarket ombudsman would help decide whether milk at $ 1 a litre was helping or harming customers. It also wants a more centralised approach to consumer issues to avoid confusion. Supermarkets have cut the price of their home-brand milk to just $ 1 a litre, a move that dairy farmers believe will cut into their profits and strangle the dairy industry. Coles and others say the price war is a win for customers. Choice said the debate highlighted an ‘‘ obvious lack of perspective and understanding’’ of the dynamics of food prices, food security and supermarket competition.
