Man charged over killing
A MELBOURNE man charged with killing his girlfriend who was stabbed and set on fire at a service station may argue diminished responsibility due to mental impairment. Nicole Joy Read, 42, suffered horrific burns after she was stabbed and set alight on June 1 last year. David Hopkins, 40, was charged with murder but yesterday his lawyer Sam Norton told the Melbourne Magistrates Court the issue in the case was whether a mental impairment defence could be made. The case was adjourned until Tuesday.
