Bayside: Killing Time

Townsville Bulletin - - Savvy -

New York’s Bayside has every right to mark this down as a career-defining album, a swift punk-rocker clocking in at 38 minutes with 10 tunes leaving the studio in a pool of sweat. Kicking about for a decade, the band steps up with a new label and a much bolder, hotter sound in Killing Time. It’s all nipped, tucked and polished with a solid thread by gun producer Gil Norton ( Pixies, Foo Fighters). Fistpumping opener Already Gone sets the cracking pace, Sick, Sick, Sick grinds out some spanking guitar riffing and harmonies that fatten up frontman Anthony Raneri’s red-hot vocals, and anthemic rocker It’s Not a Bad Little War is the album’s standout moment. It’s a big sound that should magnetise many, particularly planet emo. – SCOTT PODMORE
