Cyclone Yasi did her best to dampen North Queensland’s spirits, but popular eco tourist destination the Daintree Eco Lodge & Spa has reopened for business. The temporary closure brought staff and tradespeople together to repair the cyclone damage and finish the renovations that have been underway for the past six months or so. The resort has 15 ‘ bayans’ ( houses) surrounded by rainforest that is estimated to be around 65 millions years older than the Amazon. The lodge is exclusive. And yes, by that we also mean expensive ( upwards of $ 500 per room per night). But they do offer package deals with heaps of inclusions. And they were featured on Oprah’s Ultimate Australian Adventure. There is a huge range of eco-friendly activities on offer from Aboriginal guided rainforest walks to a variety of river tours, Great Barrier Reef and fishing adventures, or choose from four wheels, eight wheels or four legs to explore the surrounding rainforest ( yes, they offer horse riding tours as well). Of course, the lodge has its own spa, which is half of its appeal.
The treatments are all inspired by the spa’s Aboriginal heritage and include a two-hour signature treatment called Walbul Walbul - Butterfly, which includes a full body massage and exfoliation, mud wrap and nourishing head treatment.
The Daintree Eco Lodge & Spa is a multi-award winning venture nestled in the heart of the Daintree, around six hours north of Townsville ( two hours north of Cairns) on the Bruce Highway.
