Chi- X to start op­er­a­tions

Bill Shorten THE cor­po­rate reg­u­la­tor says it ex­pects the al­ter­na­tive stock ex­change op­er­a­tor Chi-X Aus­tralia will be­gin op­er­a­tions later this year in competition to the main bourse. Chi-X, a wholly owned sub­sidiary of Chi-X Inc that al­ready op­er­ates through­out Europe and Canada, will go head-to-head with the main in­cum­bent trad­ing plat­form, the Aus­tralian Se­cu­ri­ties Ex­change, from around Oc­to­ber on­wards. Chi-X’s ap­pli­ca­tion for a mar­ket li­cence needs the fi­nal nod from Fi­nan­cial Ser­vices and Su­per­an­nu­a­tion Min­is­ter Bill Shorten, fol­low­ing ap­proval of the plan by then fi­nan­cial ser­vices min­is­ter Chris Bowen.
