A 20KG Australian flag is one of the main stars of The Boy From Oz.

The flag, which usually hangs outside Parliament House in Canberra, arrived in Townsville yesterday ahead of North Queensland Opera and Music Theatre’s production of the famous musical.

At a staggering 12.8m by 6.4m, the Australian flag will hang in the theatre from March 13 and will be a focal point during the song I Still Call Australia Home.

Director Bill Munro expected the audience to become emotional or start to clap when the flag was lowered.

‘‘ The show wouldn’t be the same without the flag. Having this icon in the show makes people proud to be Australian,’’ he said.

The Boy From Oz is at Townsville Civic Theatre from March 17-26. Tickets range from $ 25-40, to book p h o n e 4 7 2 7 9 7 9 7 o r v i s i t www. townsville. qld. gov. au.
