BRITAIN’S Royal Mint has unveiled the design for an official coin to commemorate Prince William and Catherine Middleton’s wedding.

The £ 5 ($ A8.02) coin, pictured, shows the couple in profile facing each other, surrounded by a border that reads ‘‘ William and Catherine’’ and their wedding date, ‘‘ 29 April 2011’’.

The image of Queen Elizabeth II appears on the reverse side.

The Royal Mint said on Thursday that the couple and the Queen have approved the design.

A previous coin to mark the engagement had drawn criticism that the design bore little resemblance to the couple.
