Short cuts

Townsville Bulletin - - Cars Guide -

THREE in four people admit to falling out with their partner during car trips, according to a new survey. Most arguments start within an hour of the start of a journey, the poll by the Budget Car Rental company found. Around a third of the rows are caused by a partner’s bad driving habits while 27 per cent of those of a vehicle for arguments. AUTHORITIES near Buffalo, New York, have charged a woman with drunken driving after police say her nine-year-old daughter wrote a note pleading for help from passing motorists. Police allege 38-year-old Bonnie Will was driving her daughter and two other children, aged eight and 12, when she suddenly stopped her car on a busy road. Police say her daughter wrote the words “ please help us” on a piece of paper and held it up to a window in the car. A motorist called police. Will was charged with driving while intoxicated, driving drunk with children in her vehicle and child endangerment. She’s due in City Court on March 3. ENRAGED UK drivers are taking revenge on people who park poorly, according to a new online survey. Upset motorists have gone as far as damaging offending vehicles and slashing tyres, the poll shows. Based on responses from 3000 people, the survey shows that 25 per cent have verbally attacked those they have accused of parking “ crimes”. A MASSACHUSETTS biotech company is claiming it can produce renewable diesel fuel using the same ingredients that make grass grow. Joule Unlimited in Cambridge says it has invented a geneticallyengineered cyanobacterium that simply secretes the diesel — or ethanol — at remarkable rates. The organisms live in water and take in sunlight and carbon dioxide, producing and secreting ethanol or hydrocarbons — the basis of various fuels, such as diesel — as a byproduct of photosynthesis.
