Purse strings pulled on GG
GOVERNOR-General Quentin Bryce needs to be strict with spending, the government says, following reports of hefty flower and travel bills. But her office has rejected any suggestions of extravagant budgets, particularly on floral arrangements for her official residences which has been slashed to $ 800 a week. Ms Bryce’s office reportedly spent close to $ 110,000 on flowers for both the Government House and Admiralty House residences between September 2008 and January 31. Her international travel bill topped $ 545,000 since September 2008. Treasurer Wayne Swan said Ms Bryce, like everybody else, needed to ‘‘ show restraint’’.
