Shy Rachael shines in the glare of Ralph spotlight

Townsville Bulletin - - Inside Today - Emily Macdonald

RAVISHING Rachael Gleeson has been crowned the new Ralph Australian Swimwear Model of the Year finalist for Townsville.

Ms Gleeson, 23, impressed the judges at Jupiters on Friday night and will travel to Sydney for the nationals on April 4.

This isn’t the first time Ms Gleeson, an internet marketer and retail worker, has won a modelling competition – she was chosen to be a Crusty Demons babe five years ago but has shied away from the spotlight since.

She said it was her close friends who gave her the confidence to enter the competition.

‘‘ I was absolutely stoked when I won – I couldn’t believe it,’’ she said. ‘‘ I’ve always wanted to get into modelling but didn’t really have the confidence. My friends gave me the push that I needed.

‘‘ My family are stoked as well. They live in Hervey Bay so they didn’t get to see it but Mum was on the Townsville Bully website first thing in the morning to look at the photos.’’

Ms Gleeson hopes to score a coveted position in the Ralph calendar. Contestants will be involved in a fashion parade to choose the top 12 and one will be chosen to star on the cover.
