States will keep their school funding role
THE Federal Government will not move to cut out the states and take c o n t r o l o f e d u c a t i o n f unding, Sc hool Education Minister Peter Garrett says.
Si nce unveil i ng t he second version of Labor’s My School website on Friday, Mr Garrett has b e e n i n u n d a t e d wi t h questions about the future of school funding in Australia.
That’s because every school’s 2009 recurrent income and capital ex- penditure have been displayed in a comparative format for the first time, allowing the community to see how much each has in the bank.
Mr Garrett was tightlipped on the question of w h e t h e r a u n i f o r m school funding system s houl d e v e nt ual l y b e brought in, preferring instead to wait for a funding review. ‘‘ It’s better f or us t o deli ver r esources and funding support in the most efficient way we can,’’ he said.
