Face­book courts Skype

FACE­BOOK is in talks with Skype about adding a video chat fea­ture to the world’s largest so­cial net­work­ing web­site in or­der to com­pete with Google Talk and Ap­ple’s F a c e T i m e a p p l i c a t i o n , Bloomberg re­ported on the week­end.

Two peo­ple fa­mil­iar with the dis­cus­sions said the com­pa­nies were re­port­edly re­new­ing dis­cus­sions that be­gan last year about the video chat fea­ture.

Voice call­ing for Face­book friends be­came avail­able in Oc­to­ber when Skype 5 was launched but video chat­ting has yet to reach the so­cial net­work gi­ant’s web­site.

Skype, which is based in L u x e mbo u r g , r e g i s t e r e d with the US Se­cu­ri­ties and Ex­change Com­mis­sion in Au­gust to sell its shares to the pub­lic.
