Af­ter­shocks rat­tle city

MORE af­ter­shocks from Christchurch’s big quake have rat­tled the city as steady rain fell through­out the area mak­ing some streets im­pas­si­ble due to sur­face flood­ing. Po­lice are closely mon­i­tor­ing sev­eral Christchurch sub­urbs in case of flood­ing. Jumpy res­i­dents, fraz­zled by the death and de­struc­tion and fre­quent af­ter­shocks since the 6.3 quake on Fe­bru­ary 22, suf­fered through seven more tremors up to 4.8 in about three and a half hours on Satur­day evening. Most were close to Lyt­tle­ton.
