Pies skipper on sidelines
COLLINGWOOD will start its premiership defence without captain Nick Maxwell. Doctors at a Perth hospital last night were monitoring the Pies skipper, who suffered internal damage and cracked ribs in Saturday night’s NAB Cup semi-final. He will be in hospital for a week and faces a month on the sidelines, ruling him out of the Magpies clash against Port Adelaide. Maxwell’s injury came as a result of a heavy bump by Eagles veteran Andrew Embley. And there is serious concern for Pies rookie Tom Hunter, who suffered a neck injury for the second time in his brief career against the Eagles.
