Flood rorters in spot­light

THE Fed­eral Gov­ern­ment will soon start chas­ing peo­ple who made fraud­u­lent claims for flood as­sis­tance to­talling about $ 1.2 mil­lion. The gov­ern­ment could also pur­sue crim­i­nal charges af­ter com­puter checks and tip-offs raised con­cerns with 5340 pay­ments. In one case, a woman said she wasn’t able to go home be­cause of the floods when she was ac­tu­ally away for 10 days for work. An­other woman re­ceived $ 2600, say­ing she’d lost power in her street, but the en­ergy provider later said there had been no ill-ef­fects.
