Flood rorters in spotlight
THE Federal Government will soon start chasing people who made fraudulent claims for flood assistance totalling about $ 1.2 million. The government could also pursue criminal charges after computer checks and tip-offs raised concerns with 5340 payments. In one case, a woman said she wasn’t able to go home because of the floods when she was actually away for 10 days for work. Another woman received $ 2600, saying she’d lost power in her street, but the energy provider later said there had been no ill-effects.
