FAIR dinkum, you wouldn’t let this mob organise a bunfight in a bakery. Between Townsville City Council, Sunbus and Queensland Transport they’ve managed to create the most user unfriendly public transport hub that you’ve ever seen. You’d think they’d be trying to encourage people to use public transport by making it easy. Instead they’ve removed the whole idea of an interchange and spread the arrival and departure stops at random on the fringes of the city heart. There’ll be no quick change from one bus to another which is too bad if you’ve got heavy shopping. The council agrees the situation is not ideal but says their preferred option, for all the buses to pick up and set down in Sturt St, was not acceptable to Sunbus. The end result, however, is to make public transport even less accessible than it was before. Bad for the environment and bad for us all.
